We will review calcium physiology in the periparturient period of dairy cows and discuss calcium dynamics in cases of subclinical hypocalcemia. We will then cover postpartum calcium supplementation strategies and discuss the importance of postpartum feed intake to reduce the impact of this pervasive disorder.
